On July 13, 2023, Skagit County Hearing Examiner Alex Sidles approved the permit be issued to expand the Lake Erie Gravel Pit from 17.78 acres to 53.5 acres despite safety concerns expressed by the neighbors. The gravel mine is located in the vicinity of Lake Erie, off Rosario Road on Fidalgo Island. The decision and notice can be found on Skagit County Planning and Development Service’s website HERE.
The applicant and/or a party of record may appeal the decision of the Hearing Examiner to the Skagit County Board of Commissioners. Parties with standing to appeal must submit the appeal form and appeal fees to the Planning and Development Services Department within 14 calendar days of the date of the Decision.
